Mr. W. D. “Dub” Flowers, age 84, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. He was born on January 15, 1928, in Springhill, Arkansas to Will and Annie Maude Collins Flowers. Mr. Flowers was a member of Unity Baptist Church, a Mason, a member of Woodmen of the World, Past President of the Hope Lions Club, a member of the Golden K, a former member of the Hope Zoning and Planning Commission, and a former head delegate to the Arkansas State Democratic Convention. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Flowers began his career in Hope working at Crow Burlingame and Young Chevrolet, later becoming co-owner and operator of J. B. Cook Auto Parts where he worked over 50 years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting , fishing, and making his daily rounds, being a renowned storyteller and a self proclaimed historian. His favorite quote was: “If you can’t tell me something I don’t already know, then just listen”.

Mr. Flowers is preceded in death by, his parents, his loving wife of 48 years, Daris Jean Formby Flowers, seven brothers, Sid, John, Cybron, Lonnie J., Deebo, Oscar Vernon and Hollis “H. V.” Flowers, three sisters, Corrine Kidd, Lorane McBryde and Ethel Smith, and an infant sister Fannie Flowers.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jean Flowers Fry and husband Jimmy of Hope, two grandchildren, Rocky Wayne Ray and wife Jennifer of McKinney, Texas, and Katie Gordon and husband Adam Rider of Hope, a great-grandchild, Luke Jennings Rider of Hope, numerous relatives and many special friends.

Visitation for Mr. Flowers will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday January 1, 2013, at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Melon Patch % Rainbow of Challenges, 500 South Main Street, Hope, Arkansas 71801.

Funeral service for Mr. Flowers will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday January 2, 2013, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Chapel, Bro. Glenn Tropp and Bro. Jerry Kidd officiating.
